MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer Certification (MTCRE)

The Mikrotik Training Academy offers interested parties from all over the world the opportunity to gain experience and to find out more about MikroTik products and technologies. The MikroTik training program consists of courses that are held worldwide by official MikroTik certified trainers. Participation in these courses therefore also offers the opportunity to receive professional certification in various MikroTik product technologies.

The MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer (MTCRE) course is the perfect complement for anyone who has already successfully completed the MTCNA course. This course provides an intensive knowledge of static / dynamic routing (OSPF) and VPN tunnels. Part of the course are practical exercises with a training kit so that you can apply the knowledge you have acquired straight away. The exam to be passed is a central online test specified by MikroTik.

After passing the exam, you will receive a certificate.

Language : This course is multilingual and is held in German and English.


Static routing

  • Establishing static routes
  • Selection criteria for an active route.
  • Example scenario for the intended creation of passive routes.
  • Load distribution with Equal Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) routing and its limitation in practice
  • Failover possibilities: Use only available gateways.
  • Possibilities and restrictions of the fallback to backup ways.
  • Routing according to a policy using routing markings
  • Use of gateways that cannot be reached directly (recursive next-hop resolving)
  • Different types of routes.

Dynamic Routing (OSPF)

  • Introduction and functionality: Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
  • OSPF areas: backbone and non-backbone areas
  • Router types or tasks in networks with more than one area
  • Setup of OSPF with a non-backbone area
  • Virtual Links Between Areas: Usage and Limitations
  • OSPF neighbors and status of the connection to OSPF neighbors
  • Possibilities of further dissemination of OSPF-external routes,
  • Definition or adaptation of the path costs within the OSPF network
  • Designated router in the OSPF network
  • OSPF network types and their properties
  • Unicast instead of multicast communication for OSPF
  • Different area types (default, stub, NSSA) and their properties
  • Deactivation of OSPF communication on network interfaces
  • Aggregation and filtering of routing information
  • OSPF and dynamic interfaces


  • VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network): Introduction and configuration
  • IPIP (IP over IP): Establishing tunnels for routed connections
  • EoIP (Ethernet over IP) tunnel: Layer 2 connections across routers
